Instructions:

Using the dress patterns cut 2 of the main dress out of the cardstock. Cut one piece with design facing you and another piece with design away from you. This is so that when you put the two pieces together the shoulders, sides etc. line up properly.

Cut one each of the top, middle skirt, lower edge skirt out of the decorative paper. You can use any scrapbook paper or even cardstock for an extra sturdy dress. Bible Journal Embellishment Bookmark Dress - Cutting Dress Pieces

Next Cut 4″ piece of the 1/8″ ribbon.

Add double-sided tape, adhesive, or glue to the upper area of the inside of the main dress piece. Crisscross the lower edges of the ribbon, to create a loop, and secure it the center.

Now add whatever you’re using to secure your pieces with to the entire inside of dress you just added to loop too. Making sure to line up the edges, add the other main dress piece with insides touching.

Instructions Continued:

It’s now time to add the decorative paper dress pieces. Add whatever you’re using to secure your pieces together to the inside of the dress pieces. (top, middle skirt, lower edge piece)

See image above, you’ll notice that there are pieces of the main dress piece showing through. That is why it’s important to add the adhesive to the pieces and not the main dress piece. Line up edges etc. and secure the pieces to the main dress piece.

If you’d like to make the tulle dress skip this step and go to the next set of instructions. If you’re not making the tulle dress then you can add any decorative items now to your dress. (see image below for example) Otherwise, continue reading.

Instructions:

Plug in your glue gun.

Cut 4 – 5″ strips of the tulle and 1 – 8″ piece of the 1/4″ ribbon.

Find the center of the ribbon piece and add a 1/2″ piece of 1/4″ double-sided tape.

Take a piece of the tulle and fan fold it, bunching up the upper edge. Lay that piece on the furthermost outer edge of the double-sided taped area of the ribbon. Continue this process until you’ve used all 4 tulle pieces. If you have to overlap the pieces it’s fine. Add very thin dots of hot glue across the tulle and push pieces securely against the ribbon. See above image.

Trim the upper edges of the tulle that hangover the ribbon.

Using your glue gun apply a thin strip of glue to the middle-waist area of the dress. This is where the gap between the top and middle skirt is. Then lay the ribbon tulle piece on top of the glue, push the piece down to secure in place. If you add to much glue you’re tulle and ribbon piece won’t be close to the dress. See image below.

After your tulle and ribbon are secured to the dress, bring the ribbon around to the back and tie a bow, knot at the side or however you’d like to secure the ribbon. I bowed mine because I actually decorated the back of my dress too.

Now you need to trim the overhang of tulle at the bottom. You can keep it longer, or trim up shorter so that some of the main dress peeks through. Be careful not to trim the tulle too short as it will cause the tulle to be extra poofy.

Add any other embellishments you’d like to add. Then show off your pretty creation.

Well, ladies, you’ve just created your very own Bible Journal Embellishment Dress. You can get really creative with this idea. Make Christmas presents, ornaments for the tree, give as gifts for teachers with their names on it and give to your Bible study group. The options are as creative as your imagination. Here are some of the other dresses I’ve made.
